"What You Win Them With You Win Them To"

An old friend told me that statement years ago and I find that it is true not only in business, but in your daily life as well.

In business and in life, you've really only got two things and to be honest some would probably argue that they are the same thing. You've got...
  1. The relationships you build
  2. Your Reputation
The number one mistake I see people make in marketing is they think they have to come up with a new gimmick or better stuff to hand out. When the reality is that most of your clients have enough stuff and they know a gimmick when they see one.

Keep in mind if you win a client with a new gimmick or new stuff then that is what they will come to expect and when someone comes along with a better gimmick/stuff (and they will) that client is gone.

The same goes with your daily life.  Think about your friends and those around you.  Evaluate the relationships.  Ask yourself, is this really the type of people I want to be around?  If not, the figure out what it was that won them to you and change it.  However, if they are the type of people you want around you (people who inspire, encourage, etc.)...then duplicate it and win more people to you.

So, how about it?  Are you satisfied with the people you've won to you in your life?
